While the Army has strong brand recognition, not everyone knows about Army Reserves. A role in the Reserves enables people to get paid to train evenings and weekends, for a minimum of 27 days a year, and get an insight into the life of a regular Army soldier. The Best of Both Worlds aimed to reflect the balance between life as a Reserve and life as a civilian, targeted at a Gen Z audience that might not have considered a full-time career in the Army.

The key concept behind the film was seamlessness – how being a Reservist fits into real-life, including the role of transferable skills and key themes such as camaraderie, being able to train close to home. One professional actor played the main character but real soldiers played the rest of the cast for authenticity. A helmet cam allowed the team to engage and immerse the audience and was intercut with facial shots of the lead actor to bridge the two worlds.

Visual effects ramp up speed, the sound design is high-energy, and the colour grade creates a heightened reality look. The film is different because the ‘point of view’ style is rarely seen in Army campaigns and is narrative driven, with an energetic and modern look tailored to Gen Z. Breaking with the traditional approach, it pushes the boundaries of Army recruitment. The video went live in August 2025 with a campaign to follow.
