This Is Me is a crafted series of six short films and four written stories that invite colleagues at law firm Hogan Lovells to share deeply personal experiences – from surviving cancer and navigating mental health struggles to enduring pregnancy loss, eating disorders, and grief. The films were crafted with cinematic sensitivity, ensuring that the series balances art and empathy. Each story unfolds through intimate direction, deliberate framing, and a distinctive visual motif: a portrait being sketched in real time as the individual speaks.
Working with sb.inc, the firm designed a visual language that would reflect the emotional honesty of the subjects, with each film shot using natural light and neutral backgrounds. Sb.inc director Will Kee, himself a cancer survivor, brought a deeply personal understanding to the project. His father – the portrait artist – captured each participant’s likeness by hand. This intergenerational collaboration became part of the emotional texture of the films: a father and son crafting empathy together. Meanwhile, each film uses a piece to camera format to maintain trust with the viewer.
Because the topics were so sensitive, it required courage to explore these within a corporate environment. Knowing what not to show was as important as what the films did show, and the resulting film redefines what internal communications can look like. The films and written stories were housed on a bespoke intranet hub, designed with equal attention to craft: cinematic stills, consistent typography, and refined presentation ensured that the emotional quality of the work carried through. Across offices, the original sketches were exhibited as physical artworks – connecting digital storytelling back to tangible craft and sparking quiet moments of reflection across the firm.
