Linklaters gives students a sneak peek into life as a lawyer

Independent studio Sata puts a unique lens on the firm’s summer vacation scheme and smashes social media records.

Sata Studios is a small, Black-owned production company that believes in amplifying under-represented talent both in front of and behind the camera. As a magic circle Law firm, Linklaters is already known to many aspiring students and its vacation scheme is well known – a two-to three-week work experience programme where students get to experience life as a lawyer.

The firm wanted to show itself through a different lens, having previously focused on ‘fly on the wall’ campaigns. It wanted to offer a deeper insight into the training, support and wellbeing help on offer and create a video that was also fun and engaging. It decided to create a unique day-in-the-life video shot from the viewpoint of a laptop to cut through the noise, and capture the attention of Gen Z.

The idea was that seeing the day unfold from this perspective would pique interest but also make some of the mundane tasks that are integral to the scheme appear more interesting.

Sata used a magic arm fixed to a laptop to give the audience the feeling they were peering into the office during the summer vacation scheme. Special effects drove home the idea that candidates were getting an exclusive look into life at Linklaters, with voiceovers from hero ‘Sophia’ adding another layer of insight. Fast-paced cuts kept viewers engaged and emulated the busy nature of client calls, coffee catch-ups and meeting the rest of the cohort. This became the most viewed video on the firm’s Instagram page in five years, and in less than 24 hours there were 20,000 organic views. Click-through and engagement rates were way above the industry average for this type of campaign.
